Chipset Compatibility
New models are fitted with either a TI-PCI1211/1410 or Ene-CB1410 (single slot models) or a TI-PCI1420 or Ene-CB1420 (double slot models)
The Ene-CB14x0 CardBus chips are register and functionally compatible with TI-PCI1211/1410 and PCI1420 CardBus chipsets. The Ene chips are fully supported on all PSeries compatible operating systems and offer improved performance over TI devices.
Legacy models use a CL or Basis CL6729 chipset. These models are not supported in Windows 2000 or XP.
Technical Data
Operating Temperature
- Operating : 1 to 75°C
- Storage : -50 to +150°C
Power measurements
Power measurements (below) for the PCMCIA card readers represent the loading of the card reader on the PCI bus power rails without any PCMCIA card inserted in the card reader.
Single Rear Slot Models : (P111, P311, P312, PMC111)
- 12v: 3uA typical
- 5v: 21mA typical
- 3.3v: 0mA (supplied from regulator on 5v rail)
Dual slot models: (P222, P423, P424, P416)
- 12v: 6uA typical
- 5v: 40mA typical
- 3.3v: 0mA (supplied from regulator on 5v rail)
MTBF
Estimated MTBF for all our card readers is 100K hours under normal operating conditions.
Over Current Protection
Power supply over-current protection is built into all our range of PCMCIA card readers and provides protection to the PC and card reader from faulty PCMCIA cards being inserted in the card reader.
Data Transfer Rates
Maximum data transfer rate on all 1410/1420 based models is 132MByte/s. Actual data rates will vary according to the system, resources and PCMCIA card.
Max. Power Supply current to the PCMCIA card in each PCMCIA socket (all models):
- VCC 1A at 3.3V
- VCC 1A at 5.0V
- LEGACY MODELS ONLY : VPP 250mA at 12V

DOS Support
A DOS driver suitable for some applications is available in the "Unsupported" folder on the installation CD-ROM, all documentation for this driver is supplied in a pdf format file accompanying the driver. Due to the complications of modern PC's and PCI busses, this driver is unsupported; you may use it with Elan's PSeries CardBus adapters at your own risk. No technical support can be given for this driver. Bugs may be reported by filling in the PSeries support web form
Hardware Requirements
The P-series will run with any true "IBM compatible" single processor Pentium PC or higher with PCI Bus version 2.1 or higher. (Generally machines with processors earlier than the Pentium 133 do not have PCI Bus 2.1.)
We have a utility available which allows you to test BIOS support on your PC.
Multiprocessor Machines: in some systems the P-series drivers will not operate on multi-processor motherboards. This only affects systems running Windows NT4, 2000 or XP and more information is available in our troubleshooting section.
Beware! - you cannot use your P-series unit in a laptop; The P-Series drivers are designed to operate with specially designed PCI based PC-Card drives on add-in boards for desktop PC's.
You should NOT install the P-Series drivers on any other hardware platform, THEY WILL NOT WORK!
Hardware Compatibility
The P-series adapters offer a PCMCIA slot equivalent to that on a laptop PC. All models support all PCMCIA standard compliant 16-bit cards. The P111, P222 and P311 support all PCMCIA standard compliant 16-bit and 32-bit (CardBus) cards. The P416 has two slots which both support all PCMCIA standard compliant 16-bit cards; the rear slot also supports 32-bit (CardBus) cards.
PC-Card Types:
- ANY PC-Card 1997 compliant 32bit CardBus or 16bit PCMCIA card (*front slot models 16bit only)
- 802.11b/a/g Wireless LAN cards
- LAN Cards
- ATA Cards
- Serial/Modem cards
Our supported card list (PDF) indicates cards which Elan has tested with our P-series in-house.
